Om det antika Greklands vattenförsörjning / On the water supply of ancient Greece
The development of the ancient water supply of Greece is described in brief and the central causes for why Greece has so many different technical solutions discussed. The probably most important reason to the multitude of technical solutions is that the city-states in general had a far-reaching independence. Thus, many city engineers could develop their own strategies for how to design a safe water supply. But also competition and spread of good technical solutions between the city-states enhanced knowledge transfer towards better and safer supply. Also climate factors were probably important. The long and repetitive periods of droughts that already during the classical time affected Greek life must be mitigated by intelligent design, else the life in the city would be unbearable.
