OPTIMISATION OF OPERATION AND REDUCTION OF LEAD CONCENTRATION IN THE LEACHATE TREATMENT PLANT AT SPILLEPENG LANDFILL, SWEDEN / Optimering av en lakvattenreningsanläggning för blyfällning vid Spillepeng
The possibility to optimize a landfill leachate treatment plant in order to reduce the lead content by precipitation has been investigated. The precipitation takes place when an ash cell leachate is mixed with a biocell leachate in a treatment plant. The influence of precipitation by pH, leachate flows and aeration was studied. Standard operational conditions are a pH of approximately 7; the study shows that the optimal pH for lead precipitation seemed to be in a broad pH range between 6.8 and 7,5. Standard flow of biocell leachate and ash leachate flow are 1,2 m3/h and 2,2 m3/h; the study shows that up to a total flow of 5,6 m3/h the sedimentation process seems to work without negative effect. No positive effect on lead reduction due to aeration could be observed. The study stresses that the optimal conditions had already been used in full scale, ever since the start-up of the plant.
